Preparation of Nickel Ferrite from thermolysis of Nickel Hexa(Formato)-Ferrate(III)Hexahydrate

Thermal decomposition of nickel hexa(format0) fetrate(DQ decahydrate i.e. Ni3ve(HC00)s]2. 10H,O has been studied upto 913 K in static air atmosphere employing TG,DTG,DTApSC,XRD$!SR, Mossbauer and f i r e d spectroscopic techniques. Dehydration occurs in two stages in the temperature range of 348-423 K. Immediately &r the removal of the last water molecule, the anhydrous complex undergoes decompodion M mr-F~03andnickel carbonate are formed at 588 K. In the h a l stage of remixing of cations, a solid state reaction between &-F%O, and nickel carbonate leads to the formation of NiFe,O, at a temperature (873 K) much lower than for ceramic method Ahigh value of saturation magnetization i.e. 4440 gauss of the ferrite (NiFeO,) shows its potential to function at high frequencies.
